Independence  Branch Library and Apartments Brings Color and Community to West Side Neighborhood

Tandem Ventures recently provided compliance consulting services for Evergreen Real Estate Group on the development and building of the Independence Branch Library and Apartments at 4024 N. Elston Avenue. The project team constructed the 82,050, two-story library with 44 affordable senior apartment units on four floors above it.

The library includes an open floor plan, natural light, bursts of color, and flexible spaces for meetings, play and independent study. The apartments each include their own balcony space in unique colors, and community amenities such as a fitness room and a green roof. John Ronan Architects provided architectural services on the project. The development won the AIA’s Housing award,  ENR’s Best Office/Retail/Mixed-Use Project of the Year, AIA and ALA’s Project of the Year Award, and the Driehaus Foundation’s Architectural Excellence Award.
