Woodlawn Station

Tandem Ventures provided a suite of consulting services—regulatory compliance, workforce development, and community outreach—for the construction of Woodlawn Station, a 95,000 square-foot transit-oriented development under the Cottage Grove Green Line Station in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood. The development is comprised of 70 total units across three buildings. The main development includes 55-units, with 15 additional units in two neighboring off-site buildings. Tandem worked with general contractor Skender Construction, Preservation of Affordable Housing, the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Nia Architects to complete the project.

Along with the mixed-income apartments, Woodlawn Station includes ground floor retail space offered at lower rents with generous tenant improvement packages. The buildings’ first retail tenant was the famed Daley’s restaurant, which will soon be joined by other local entrepreneurial businesses.

The project involved 26% MBE and 6% WBE participation. It was completed in April 2018.
